The largest cat species is the tiger (Panthera tigris). This big cat can reach a total body length of 11.1 feet and weigh up to 857 pounds. Tigers are easily recognized by their reddish brown hair covered in dark brown and black vertical stripes.

The lion is second largest after the tiger. This big can can reach a weight of around 400 pounds and a length of 4 to 8 feet. Females are smaller and lighter in weight than the males. Lions exist worldwide in zoos but wild lions currently inhabit in sub-Saharan Africa and in parts of India and Asia.
