Papel Picado (perforated paper) is a traditional tissue  paper craft popular with Mexican folk lore.  Artists typically use chisels and one pattern as a guide to stamp or cut out sections of multiple sheets of tissue paper at a time.   These papel picado images use the fanfold method, but once the designs are cut out can easily be used as guides to cutting out multiple sets of patterns.  Print on the lightest weight paper possible to make the cutting process easier.

Papel picado Mexican folk art are common decorations used for both secular and religious occasions, such as the Day of the Dead carnival celebrations, weddings, baptisms, and christenings and can contain numerous themes such as mosaic patterns, birds, skeletons and flowers.
